Hi everyone. I am trying to reassess what my problems are and areas I need to focus on. I just took the Official GRE and I got a 160 on Quant and 156 on Verbal. Pretty disappointed with Verbal, as Quant I have gotten 160+ from the beginning so less concerned with that. I know all 34 groups of vocab, but it felt like half of the questions for TC/SE did not have a single one of the vocab words in the question answers. Native English speaker, but I have always sucked at it. It genuinely feels like the issue was Vocab and was just curious if anyone has any tips or ideas, as I plan on retaking the test in a month. Thanks!
Are you sure you’re assessing this accurately? For most students this doesn’t seem to be the case. Regardless, no vocab list is perfect and there’s a luck factor involved in which words might come up. A 156 on verbal generally signals a lack of strategy, not vocab.
However, feel free to explore another vocab list if you feel it can help you. More vocab is never harmful, but the returns are not so good.
Hi Ganesh! Thanks for responding. I’m going to review the strategies again, even though whenever I do the practice I feel like I am scoring fairly well, I just tend to not be the greatest test taker. I am fairly confident though, in that the majority of the questions on the test I took did not have Vocab Mountain Words on the previous test. May have just been screwed by luck, but I’ll review the strategies this month and see if that helps. Thanks!
Was it TC or RC you found to be more challenging?
RC, TC/SE I find easy when I know the words. RC is what I have spent thoe most time working on. Not a fan of the time constraint.
