This is a passage from gregmat full practise test - section 3 - question 5. For this, I selected sentence 2 option. That is because I thought personal biases of those who gathered the collection would be a reason to have inconsistent collections. Why can this not be the reason, and why is sentence 5 option correct?
What do you see as the main difference between sentences 2 and 5?
Sentence 2 talks about personal biases, and Sentence 5 talks about the potential reason for personal bias. But both the sentences are pointing out potential bias is the reason for inconsistency.
That is my understanding of the passage.
Please correct me where I went wrong.
Sentence 2 talks about personal biases, and Sentence 5 talks about the potential reason for personal bias.
Exactly. The question asks which sentence provides insight into a possible reason. Essentially, it’s asking for additional information about the bias. While sentence 2 introduces the bias, sentence 5 goes into detail (provides insight) about it.
I will say that I don’t totally love the wording here, I would prefer if it read, “Which sentence provides insight into the proposed reason…” to make the distinction clearer.
