Hi there! I’m close to taking the GRE and have been doing a few practice tests. I’ve found that the ones on GregMat are significantly harder for me than some others. Have others found this to be true as well? And if so which tests best mimic the real thing?
I just took the Practice test 2 on greg mat and got a 161 on quant and 162 on verbal. But on a kaplan test I took yesterday I got 167 quant and 168 verbal. And I took the first power prep test a few days ago and did pretty well (it doesn’t score it for you but I got 1 question wrong on each quant and verbal section 1, and 2 questions wrong on each quant and verbal section 2, which I think would put me in the 165-168 range on both). Does anyone have any insight? I feel like these are pretty big discrepancies.
We’ll need more information to see why the difference (maybe you could share your score report for GregMAT) but otherwise we can’t tell. If I had to pick one, I would trust the PowerPrep result, though we’ve seen all kinds of combinations (such as the GregMAT test being more accurate than ETS practice tests in the end, and some cases where the GregMAT test wasn’t as accurate).
Indeed. On the quant side, the main reason you didn’t get a higher score is that you got capped at a second medium section.
My take is that the 161Q sounds accurate (note that I don’t mean to say that the PowerPrep test you got isn’t better); the penalty is even more severe if this was an (actual) ETS test as you’re capped at about a 159Q no matter how well you tackle section 2.
