What is the evidence here for answer B ?
I looked at the sentence this way : Far from showing something, it showed us something else.
This looks like a contrast I guess and so we need to select an answer where both blanks are contrasting.
B looks like a good option
I’m here four years later with the same issue. The answer seems to be D in my opinion. It’s not an actual physical puzzle that Hampshire’s assertion talks about, it’s an ideological puzzle about objectivity, a concept. Which would mean we can admire the ancient (or old, antiquated) ideas about objectivity, but his assertions reveal that even to this day, objectivity is even more elusive than we had thought. I’m not sure how they can be more “relevant” or how we can “dismiss” the old ideas about objectivity.
I wouldn’t analyze this ancient question since it’s not representative of the current test. Save your energy for analysis of the recent material from ETS.
