dropped the ball at level 3 difficulty - between 70-76%. Followed Greg’s recommendations in the following topics:
For foundation (85%+):
For when foundation is good:
Should I proceed to ETS questions or should I practice more hard level questions? Any recommendations/guidance for hard level math practice? that’s where I am getting lost.
I took free ETS PP1 in august and scored 327 and the free ETS PP2 and scored 305 which is why I went back to brushing up foundation and that’s what I’ve been doing since September 1.
Sure! I took PP1 back in December 2023 for the first time prior to my first attempt (157V 150Q). This is why I think the scores for the first test were high - the score is inflated I think. In addition to this, when I first did GregMat foundation for my second round of prep after a gap in May 2024 (that’s when I discovered you guys) I didn’t seek guidance in terms of how I should use my foundation prep and hone it further. I went straight to Manhattan mock tests and scored really low on the tests post which I reached out to Greg where he mentioned that I should focus on my foundation, strengthen it and sent me a link to the second article as well and that is how I discovered the GRE big book which has been immensely helpful.
OK. Looking at your first attempt scores at least, I do not see enough evidence that your foundation is good enough. How have you been studying for the test?
Please note that the PP1 and PP2 ETS mocks were taken in August 2024 prior to going through everything again. Everything that I did to brush up my prep as in the main post was done AFTER I took the PP1 and PP2. I went through all the foundation videos in the I’m overwhelmed plan, did the google forms foundation quizzes (85%+), GRE big book (untimed 28-30; timed 26-30), hard level questions (math fundamentals basic quizzes by difficulty - screenshot attached above). Now, I’m also executing 10 quant questions easy to hard.
thanks! I have bought an official PPP1. Should I take that? Or should I take one of the three in ETS’s quant papers in ETS’s quant reasoning practice book? Or one of the GregMat papers?
coming back with an update on the PPP1. I scored, 156V/156Q (v/s 154V/151Q last month). For Quant, the questions weren’t difficult as such, I feel. However, in the second section for Quant at least, I took some time to solve the questions through due to which I lost out on time in the last 3-4 questions.
You’re right. I thought id come back to them because the section wasn’t looking very difficult but I lost out on time. That said, I’ve tried attempting the questions in the second section and untimed, I was able to get 5/7 right in quant.
For the next steps how do you recommend I work on foundation? Should I focus more on targeted prep?
