How to choose answer for this question

Hi guys, in this question, Greg chose the answer E because 90 is 2% of the nondefective staplers produced.

However, the question is not “what is the number of nondefective staplers produced?” Instead, it is “how many staplers were produced?”, meaning total staplers, meaning that the 10% quota in the question can be ignored, and the correct answer is 4500.

I totally get the reasoning for 5000. However, I think that 4500 is the correct answer if you follow the question by the letter.

“if 90 of the non detective staplers were rejected” is establishing the constraint, so you can’t really ignore anything.

1.8 \% of the total staplers are rejected. They’ve already given you what 1.8\% of some quantity amounts to. Under that constraint, you’re supposed to find what 100\% of said quantity is.
