Greg told us that the first blank should probably be negative, but I assumed it to be positive and chose option B, whereas the answer was option C. I eliminated the answer options using the second blank, by which only options B and C remained. Now, how do I pick between the two?

Why would you assume it to be positive?
Also, what was the logic for your second blank if you assumed that the first blank was positive?
Even leaving the positives and negatives aside
Logically the second option doesn’t make any sense
“refraining from offering criticism” and “inquisitiveness” are not related to each other
If the sentence was:
Not wanting to appear _______, junior member refrained from asking questions.
Then inquisitiveness would have made sense
However not offering criticism does not relate to not being see as inquisitiveness
They are very different ideas
