Howework Doubt - (2024 Edition) TC and SE Strategy Series - Session 7

While reviewing the fourth question of session 7 homework (screenshot below), Greg mentions that this is an infinite possibility question and thus, we need to look for antonyms in the answer choices.

The discussed correct answer is arbitrary and intention, why isn’t humdrum and invigoration correct?

The sentence might as well mean that a boring movie (humdrum) can on occasion move an audience, but usually it is the more exciting (invigorating) ones.

Why do you think “invigorating” means “exciting”?

AI Overview

Yes, humdrum is the opposite of invigorating

  • Humdrum

Means lacking variety, dull, or boring. Synonyms include monotonous, dull, drab, dreary, and tedious.

  • Invigorating

Means to make someone feel strong and revitalized. Synonyms include refreshing, stimulating, restorative, and vitalizing.

Some antonyms of humdrum include:

exciting, stimulating, entertaining, interesting, lively, animated, exceptional, and extraordinary.

I wouldn’t really agree with that, the opposite of humdrum would be something more along the lines of “exciting” or “invigorating”>

However, this isn’t an ETS question, so feel free to give yourself the point if you chose those.
