This vocabulary question offers both ‘public’ and ‘unmistakable’ as options to choose from as synonyms for overt but both are synonyms of overt.
There was an “public” display of affection. OR There was an “unmistakable” display of affection.
Unmistakable makes more sense since “an public” doesn’t really make sense. You are correct in saying both are synonyms but they also have to make sense too.
