I had a month and a half of practicing for my GRE and have taken two diagnostic tests. For my first test I scored 155V and 145Q. For my second test I scored 156V and 148Q. My target score is 165V and 160Q. I hope to take the official exam either in August or September. Is it possible to increase my score in this time frame, or should I adjust my timing and take my test in October to four months. I’m trying really hard to be consistent in my practice but it feels as though I haven’t been improving much. I’m also struggling to find tips and tricks that work to improve. Can any one offer me any tips for improving my scores 10-15 points in a two to four month time frame?
Can you share your diagnostic report?
I am guessing this was PowerPrep 1 ?
The scoring algorithm for it :
0-6 correct in section 1 = Easy Section 2
7-14 correct in section 1 = Medium Section 2
15-20 correct in section 1 = Hard Section 2
Now, the first section is always medium(For both quant and verbal) and looking at what you want to score(160Q , 165V), you’ll have to get medium section in Quant and Hard Section in Verbal for your section 2 which means getting at least 12 questions correct in both quant sections and getting 17+ questions correct in your first verbal section then getting 15+ question correct in your second verbal section.
I will start with practicing medium and hard level questions from GMAT and gregmat site for quant (Timed+ untimed practice) and for verbal you’ll have to yourself figure out which topic you’re struggling with and watch dedicated series on that specific topic and then practice from Big Book + Official Material (In case you’ve already used big book then you can use 3rd party verbal material on Gregmat).
Also, timing is very crucial in these type of test . You’ll need to figure out a game-plan on how you’ll approach each section as well as each question type. What question type are your strength and what
question type needed to be skipped and come back later to etc… Watch Time Management videos to get a idea of how Greg approach it to figure out how you can personalized it for yourself!
Thank you for this feedback!
