Is it mandatory to send scores to certain universities on test day?

This is going to be my first time sitting for GRE. Can you somebody please enlighten me about sending scores to unis? I have no clue about it. I mean, is it necessary to send scores to unis on that day? Or can I do it later for free?

Usually, we recommend sending - you can always send a better score later on.
