Is the thought process correct?

People should not be praised for their virtue if they lack the energy to be ------; in such cases, goodness is merely the effect of -------.

(A) depraved . . hesitation

(B) cruel. . effortlessness

(C) wicked . .indolence

(D) unjust.. boredom

(E) iniquitous . . impiety

In this question, I noticed “such” after semi colon and Identified that It’s “previously referenced” and then used this strategy to fill 2nd blank as “lack of energy” which is “lazy”. Then while eliminating the choices based on “lazy” for 2nd blank only choice B remained, so I choose B which is correct answer.

Is this a correct strategy ?

If this is from the Big Book Test 6 question 7, the correct answer is C.

Otherwise, yes, your logic is correct. Lack of energy = laziness = indolence

I’m assuming you writing choice B was a typo? If not, effortlessness is more about seeming like you didn’t have to try hard (whether you actually did or not).

Additionally, since you can’t eliminate both blanks based on one choice on the modern test, it’s best to complete both blanks first before checking answer choices. The value is in solving the sentence since the elimination strategy is totally different for the Big Book questions.

Sorry, my bad. Yes, indeed there’s a typo, I choose C. I wanted to know if logic of identifying “such” and using this to classify this as “previously reference strategy” is correct logic ?

Yes, that is a good way to use a support cue with previously referenced to solve the second blank.
