Is this a bad question from ETS?

Hello.

The following passage is from the OG chapter 3.

I chose option A. Correct answer is E. I don’t get it. The passage clearly states in the final sentence, after the semi-colon, “it is high art for listener steeped in rock RATHER THAN the classics”, which, in my opinion, matches option A.

While I acknowledge that option E is also correct. But, what the hell?

It’s actually a very clever trap setup by GRE peep’s because what you highlighted is the author’s opinion while what option A) is asking is 3rd party’s opinion(which was never mentioned in the passage)

yes…I was thinking the same…a very clever trap indeed. Thanks.
