I made a horrible decision to take the GRE in three weeks (first attempt) due to a deadline. I am currently in the last week—dead inside! I’m okay-ish in verbal; the preparation has served me well. But I’m horrible at quant since I haven’t touched math since high school. The preparation is definitely not serving me well, and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Any advice to help me achieve at least a desirable score in both quant and verbal?
Provide more details about what you have been preparing for over the past two weeks, including the concepts you have covered and those you have yet to cover. Also, share your target score, your recent mock test score, and any other relevant details to help gain insights into your GRE preparation.
Okay, so I’ve been using GregMat for the verbal section. I’ve covered the TCs (Text Completions) and SCs (Sentence Equivalence) and built up my vocabulary up to Group 18. And currently on reading strategies. In my most recent verbal section mock test, I scored 151, which is quite close to my target, but I’d like to improve further if possible.
For quant, I’m using a mix of Magoosh concept videos and Tested Tutor whenever I need more clarification. Now, here’s the embarrassing part—I’ve only in a real sense covered arithmetic so far, as I hadn’t touched math for the past 5 to 7 years. I am taking time to absorb. My mock test score in quant is 133, but the bare minimum I need for my scholarship is 145.
Focus on high-yield topics. In quant, prioritize arithmetic, algebra, and data interpretation. Skip the hardest questions and aim for high accuracy on easy and medium ones. In verbal, keep sharpening reading strategies and reinforce your vocab. Time management is key, don’t get stuck on tough questions. Stay consistent and review mistakes.
Thank you
