So I have gone through all the PrepSwift videos.
Then i went ahead and did the 2 month plan up to week 4 - as i saw each topic had more practice problems and discussions.
So before doing anything else, i decided to rehash the flashcards and quant mountain and then start attempting the foundation quizzes.
So in Arithmetic quizzes, I score 92% and above. In the algebra ones, quiz # 1 was 89% wile quiz # 2 was only 71%…as I got 4 of the 14 sums wrong. When I reviewed the errors and the reason for them, shockingly I noticed that 3 of them were wrong because I simply made calculation error, while I didn’t completely understand what the 4th question wanted or i actually misinterpreted it.
Now my question is how do i stop making these silly mistakes…because my greatest fear is that all these will add up and then drastically lower my score in the actual exam Any tips of how to develop better habits to stop making these silly mistakes … I know revising the answers is one…but I always skip revising them too, maybe because of my overconfidence as the concepts are clear
My exam is at the end of April and I am panicking now
I’m just another person using GregMat for prep, so take this with a grain of salt. I also often make silly arithmetic mistakes, so I started tracking exactly what percent of my missed Qs came from arithmetic mistakes and what kind. So, for example, how many arithmetic mistakes were multiplication vs addition vs division etc. Then, I also started noticing some trends. For example, I often make arithmetic mistakes on the first few Qs I solve. Almost like my brain is warming up. A few Qs in, my mistakes drastically lower. I also make more arithmetic mistakes when I study early in the morning (probably because I’m not a morning person). And I make loads more when I’m sleepy/tired generally.
So, with all that information, now what am I doing? I’m realizing the importance of studying when I am alert and fresh. I’m using free online resources to solve lots of basic arithmetic problems (literally those websites for fourth grades with quizzes on multiplication tables, etc). That way I build confidence through lots of reps on the specific thing that I often mess up. Yes, back to basics! I am also focusing on organizing my work more clearly when I solve questions so that I can spend a few seconds skimming over what I did to check for mistakes. I have a bad habit of writing illegibly which probably contributes the problem.
Good luck!
Thanks for sharing your experience and your tips!
the craziest thing is I make mistakes in the easiest sums…like I’m extra careless when doing stuff that I am familiar with and THAT is so frustrating!
Also not a morning person here either. But my exam’s scheduled for early morning…no idea what I’m gonna do!
