What is the source of this question?
I thought the same, but this is the complete question. It is Question 32 from Manhattan 5 lb Chapter 11.
Well looks like the mod has edited it
It was equated 1, so now you can calculate for m
\frac{3}{\frac{m+1}{m}+1} = 1
3 = \frac{m+1}{m}+1
\frac{m+1}{m} = 2
m + 1 = 2m
m = 1
