Manhatten 5lbs Ch 13 Q25

Hi,

Trying to figure out how I set up the following incorrectly (the logic behind setting it up).

Q:
x and h are both positive integers. When x is divided by 7, the quotient is h with a remainder of 3. Which of the following could be a value of X?

I did:

(x/7)= (h+3)
x=7(h+3)
x=7h+21

Should have set it up as:
x=7h+3

Can someone explain this. Also apologies if this is a silly question. My maths is very rusty

That’s wrong. The idea is that when x is divided by 7 you get a remainder of 3. In other words x - 3 divides 7 with no remainder. That is, you can say that

\frac{x - 3}{7} = h

(your solution was the same as if x divided 7 with no remainder)
