Math stratergy walkthrough

We realized that John was still young and impressionable, but were nevertheless surprised at his _____.
A) naivete
B) obstinateness
C) decisiveness
D) ingenuousness
E) resolve

in this doesn’t but and nevertheless cancel out and we get a +ve ?
also isn’t resolve the opposite of impressionable so lets say the whole idea needs to be a contrast we have 2 options to consider naivete and resolve ?

Yes

isn’t resolve the opposite of impressionable

I wouldn’t think of it that way–an impressionable person can still have resolve…like a dedicated cult member.

so lets say the whole idea needs to be a contrast we have 2 options to consider naivete and resolve

Could you clarify what you mean by this?

If they cancel the blank should be something support of naive but in the lecture Greg explained it as a contrast? So am I missing something here?

There are multiple ways of thinking about something as a support or contrast, the key is that you spotted “but nevertheless” as two contrasts that cancel each other out so you knew to choose a word that supported “young and impressionable“.

Don’t overthink it as long as you are consistently getting the correct answers.
