Maybe some pep talk on penguin data analysis question

So I have been fortunate to have a great peer study group throught school and college studies, but now 6 years into career, I am at a place that I am studying alone for my GRE haha, so I thought I will just use this forum to talk and seek support since I am doing the gregmat plan.

My target school has 85% Q percentile (170Q) and 15% V percentile. So my main focus is naturally on locking in quant only. My baseline was free GRE test with 168Q score, my degree was in mathematics so I do have strong fundamentals, but I am still going through the Prepswift quant and doing all the problems. So far I have completed the Arithmetic, Algebra and Coordinate Geometry from PrepSwift including all related video problems, tickbox quizzes and fundamental quizzes. So today I decided to solve all 50 questions in GRE Official guide chapter 7, the easy, medium, hard question sections. I took it timed and took about an hour fifteen minutes for the complete chapter, and ended with 3 wrong -

  1. 3rd Question wrong in Set 2 (Medium) - I didnt know figures are not to scale and considered quadrilateral to scale in circle. So this is something is I can correct by knowing the GRE conventions better.
  2. 14th Question wrong in Set 3 (Hard) - I misread the question and assumed both n and n2 have 24 and 108 as factors. After reading the question correctly I got it correctly, so this is fine.
  3. 15th Question wrong in Set 5 (Hard) - Now this pengiun height range question has really thrown me off my center. I couldn’t come up with an approach to this problem at all. Then I read the solution and understood, but I am getting anxious because statistical data related work is something I am totally cutoff from since high school, as my maths degree was mostly lot of abstract maths.

So I am just anxioous that question like this will take me down from my target of Q170. I plan to start with Data Analysis prepswift part from Monday, but is question like this something that will be manageble after Data Analysis Prepswift part or I need to plan and work more on Data Analysis portion on Quant.

Thank you guys, I apologise if I seem to be rambling.

Don’t be. Chin up, keep your head high. You did great and you will in the exams too.

What is important is to learn the lessons from the question so you don’t get similar wrong next time.

More concepts is definitely helpful but in truth, these sort of questions (data sufficiency) can be on any topic and not just data analysis - It can be based on a geometric figure for example. I’m sure even you realized you didn’t need any “new” or “arcane” knowledge to solve it. It tests the same concepts even though they may feel unusual at first glance. I’d even argue that, it bears a lot of similarity to Quantitative Comparison as you mostly want to prove if there are multiple cases (D) or a single case (A, B or C) possible.

Continue familiarizing yourself with as much official materials as possible so you can see most of the ways ETS test concepts, which includes these question types.

You’re welcome and I understand how you must feel.

Don’t be sad. Keep working, you’ll do good.
