More Videos on Main Ideas

Is this the only page containing videos on identifying main ideas? I think I need more on that

Is there any particular concept under main idea strategy that you’re having difficulty in understanding ?

I think the main ideas I formulated lack precision. Also, I think I’m still pretty slow on formulating those main ideas and watching greg explain his thought process helps me greatly

Big Book has 27 test and each test contains 2-short Para and 2-long Para(and each will have the main idea question) thus, 4 para per test which gives you 4 x 27 = 108 Para to practice from. I would recommend for the first few tests , don’t time yourself and just focus on applying the strategy, After that when you’re feeling comfortable start timing yourself. In real GRE you’ll get 2 mins per question so time yourself according to that .

alright, thanks!

BTW this assumes that their main ideas are explained on the answer explanation right?

Greg did a walkthrough of the Big Book https://www.gregmat.com/course/old-gre-walkthroughs
But try to come-up with the explanation for the right answer yourself by justifying your choice from the text provided in the paragraph , instantly jumping to Greg’s explanation can harm your learning process!

Note - The new books are still in-publications still thus, there is no walkthrough for them !

There aren’t answer explanations in the Big Book, but if you do a ton of the passages you’ll find you’re able to identify the main idea clearly and quickly.

I just experienced this over the past few weeks. I was having the same issue - I kept getting the ‘main idea’ question wrong - but after doing about 8 passages from the Big Book my success rate on those questions increased slightly; I’m now able to grasp the main idea much quicker than before and with less deliberation and re-reading.

What helps me is to make little mental notes when I’m reading the passage. It helps me read with intention and also retain more, once I’m done reading. Like the stuff Greg notes down in the passage exercises (key words, simplified sentences, etc).

Real sorry for the late reply, but thank you very much for your answers!
