Like we have the Quant and Vocab Mountains for quant foundations and vocabulary recall, can we also have mountains or flashcards for the strategies we need to learn for each of the GRE sections? That way, we’d practise recall for not just concepts and vocabulary, but also the strategies we can apply to what sorts of questions, how we can apply them and under what conditions
Very interesting. Thank you
What do you think about this?
It’s not a bad idea, but mountains usually involve large numbers of entries like 1,000 vocabulary words or hundreds of quant concepts. The issue with strategies is that there are, at most, a couple dozen of them
It still might not be a bad idea to have them. For Quant Mountain, for instance, each mountain entry corresponds to concepts covered in the respective PrepSwift lesson. Doing the mountain helps you recall and therefore retain what we learnt in each of those lessons. We could similarly have mountain entries, or flashcards even, corresponding to each of the Verbal, Math and Writing Strategy PrepSwift lessons where we’re learning the principles or the methods of the strategy (not the practising lessons, unless there’s an important aspect to the strategy mentioned in those).
Doing flashcards or mountains for these strategies could be spaced out more than the Quant or Vocab Mountains which we need to do daily. The point would be to keep the strategies fresh even when we’re not practising (because some weeks we practise Pairing, some weeks it’s Math Strategy for verbal, and so on). And often, when we practise applying strategies to questions, without also revising the principles of the strategy, we often tend to forget the smaller details. So again, revising principles of each of the strategies regularly, even if not daily, would be useful.
I tend to be forgetful about the above, so I’m making notes for strategies on-the-go like this:
Not sure if this is how I’m supposed to go about strategies, but it helps me quite a bit.
Yeah it makes sense. I’ll give it some thought. Thank you for your feedback
