Need Help to this Geometry problem

I stuck in this problem: https://www.gregmat.com/problems/problem/ADGJ-is-a-square-of-size-1/

Can you explain the solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.

Area of shaded portion = Area of square - 2(Area of red triangle) - 2(Area of blue triangle)

From the information
Area of square = 1
base and height of red triangle = x

base and height of blue triangle = kx +x

Area of triange = \frac{b*h}{2}

Plug in the values

You will get the following equation :

1-x^2-(kx+x)^2

Which is same as Option D
