Can someone help me out with the following question:
Identify the division like led, causing, As, Once and Such. Focus on 2nd part of sentence where division is comma and such point to 1st sentence which talk about bad practice of consumer so the 3rd blank will be falter. 1st and 2nd blank is like dominoes so both blank are support which is denoted by led and after comma suggest that damages are irreversible. So, 1st and 2nd blank are negative, hence prodigal and residual, as nature of prodigal person is to waste thing so there will be important remaining thing which will be worthless and primary will be redundant option. Please let me know if I am incorrect.
- I look at blank 3 first. “once unwavering” looks like time contrast, opposite of “unwavering” is “wavering” → “falter”.
- I then look for blank 1 and blank 2. “Causing irreversible environmental damage” is a support, and tells me blank 1 and blank 2 mean something bad for environment. Additionally, “sparking a push for more sustainable alternatives” is a contrast to the first sentence, telling me that blank 1 and blank 2 are not sustainable.
- For blank 1, I put in “wasteful” → “prodigal”.
- For blank 2, I want a descriptor for waste that has the closest meaning to prodigal (extravagant, spending freely). I’m starting to use storytelling here, but I would say that there is no evidence for “primary” or “intentional”, just that a prodigal consumer, in their extravagance, causes waste as a result → “residual”.
I am least confident on blank 2. I can see how “once unwavering support” could justify intentional as well, but I’m not certain if that’s too much storytelling.
