In TC and SE Session 2 of Week 1 - Day 2 of 2-month plan, Greg mentioned he had a 10-minute video or so explaining this question in detail (possibly on the YouTube channel). I browsed through his channel briefly to find anything that’s related to Text Completion but could not find it. Does someone have the link?
He forgot , He never discussed this problem in one of his youtube videos
Is this violating the rule? Please dm me the rule, just so I can avoid next time
Same. I also want to review @gregmat 's approach to this question.
I think the correct answer is D. Here’s my reasoning:
Step 1: Hide options
Step 2: Determine whether we are gonna look for support or contrast. “Colon” means that whatever comes after it is directly related to the previous sentence. However, the “not to exist” made me think that we need to find contrast to the idea expressed after the colon. Thus, I determined that we need to find contrast to the idea expressed after the colon.
Step 3: Determine the word/idea that is supported – the idea that “everybody has an angle” is considered wisdom. I particularly focused on the phrase “everyone has an angle” in that everyone have some sort of bias or ulterior motive in that they think of themselves.
Step 4: Come up with a word based on analysis in step 3. So, something that is opposite of selfish… “not selfish”
I didn’t know what the word “diffidence” means, so I ended up choosing that. But the correct answer is D, disinterestedness, which means impartial and fair. Opposite of someone who is selfish should be someone who is fair and unbiased.
Need to work on vocabulary so that I don’t mess up questions like these.
Any tips / feedback on my analysis are welcomed.
FYI to all - this question is explained in the video titled “TC and SE Session 2” in the Week 1 Day 2 of the 2 month study plan.
Yes, I mentioned this at the opening of the post as well. I was just looking for more explanation and possibly the 10-minute video Greg mentioned in the video - but apparently he forgot or not having it uploaded to his youtube channel.
You’re right. Thanks!
