Non-overlapping triangles in a triangle

Why the number of non-overlapping triangles in a polygon is (n-2). If we consider the other way shown in the image, there can be n triangles, one for each side.

If we consider the other way, then the total sum of angles of the polygon can be calculated by 180*n -360
N is the number of triangles and 360 is the sum of central angles

Hey there, the triangles are actually overlapping in the second rectangle you drew. Here’s another example of non-overlapping triangles in a polygon:

The line segments of the triangle cannot be crossed for it to not overlap. The line segments of your triangles in your second rectangle are crossing, hence it’s overlapping.
