Official Guide TC question

I don’t get the explanation of this question. Why is it that when comparing two movements they must be either similar or opposing? I know that “inimical” means “hostile”. Does “inimical” support they are opposing each other?

The opposing isn’t describing the movement, it describes the “assertion that the two movements were inimical.” An activist most likely would not support two hostile movements - or emphasize (underscore) these movements. So “undermine” is the best answer.

Not a fan of this question, couldn’t get the math method to work - so I mostly relied on vocab knowledge.

Thank you. It makes sense that an activist won’t support hostile movements. But I still can’t convince myself logically.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem with GregMat’s techinques?

Now, we have so see which pair is provided in the answers.

Thank you so much!!!
By the way, when GRE verbal questions compare two things, is it almost the always the case that the two things are either similar/connected or opposing/disconnected?

Depends on the context but if this problem came in my real exam and I can’t immediately bridge the gap b/w two blanks then I will skip it(mark random choices) and return to it if I got some extra time remaining and would try to eliminate answers depending on my understanding of the question
