Could someone please rephrase this sentence? I am especially confused by the phrase “if it does not reverse” within the sentence.
Many critics think that the second part of Emily Bonte´s novel is in contrast to the first part: it discusses, or even overthrows, the prior part.
According to this sentence then, the first part is more romantic (poetic, sentimental), meaning that the second part would be, according to the critics, more straightforwardly rational.
