This is my thought process:
even when there was evidence supporting the **alternative** hypotheis...
→ alternative means there was an original hypothesis.
the scientists were indifferent to other possibilities than the original hypothesis.
meaning to say… scientists were not ready to accept other possibilities even though there was evidence supporting this one other alternative theory.

My answer was D. dismissive of

If archaeologist remained dismissive towards other possibilities then he should be all in for alternative hypothesis but if we go in with this logic then there are two major problems :

  1. There is no contrast if we fill the blank with dismissive

  2. If dismissive works then hesitant should also work
