My thought process is as follows-
I saw the word ‘normally’ and realised that there’s a contrast in the sentence.
Therefore, author does not use the devices to create drama in his works.
For blank (i)
My guess is that his approach is unique. So startling fits.
For blank (ii)
That her work _________ the devices. ()
Among the options,
I did not know the meaning of jettison at first place. So among remaining options experiment depicts the idea that author did something different.
The correct answer is Jettison and after knowing the meaning I believe both jettison and experiment with makes sense.
Why is experiment with wrong ?
Thanks.
Interestingly, the answer is buried in your question. Your thought process is correct. In fact, you rightly predicted the phrase does not use.
Now, if you look at the answer choices, which one has a close meaning to “does not use?” I think, jettison it is. Plus, something is startling doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s experimental. Rather, when someone does something unconventional (not conforming to the what people normally do), it is surprising, in most cases. However, when somebody does an experiment, he or she can follow what most people do, or what most do not do. So, it can be either way. Thus, “jettison” justifies the best option.
Thanks buddy, I like your explanation that something experimental is not necessarily startling.
I believe that I got stuck with my own word unique and chose the option B. Had we have unique instead of startling , I believe experiment with would have been more apt or atleast a satisfactory contender.
Anyways thanks.
