In this question why is “experimented with” in blank 2 is wrong
Experimenting can also go against the convention and can be startling right?
I think jettisoned makes more sense since “experimented with” isn’t as startling as “jettisoned” the devices that are normally used. Here, startled is being used because she’s doing something that isn’t being ‘normally’ done

“Normally used” is the key phrase here. If it is NOT normally used, then her work is unusual and hence startling (not pedestrian/celebrated). If normal devices are not used, then she isn’t even experimenting with them, and basically saying, throw it out the window. so jettison is the best fit.
