PowerPrep 2 Quant Section 2 Question 5

Which strategy would you use?

Got this one wrong. Upon reviewing, the only way I can think to solve a question like this is back solving, but I’m wondering if anyone has a quicker approach. Start by subtracting 20 from the answer choice to see how many games were played in the first half of the year, then multiply this number by the win rate (60%). Add the result to 3 and divide by the answer choice.

The result should equal 0.5, right?

Do exactly what you did, but instead you can just use a variable instead of each answer choice.

You should have something like the following:

\frac{0.6(t - 20) + 3}{t} = 0.5
