"Primary Purpose" question, pls help (past test, not PP)

questions from real test in the past.
B or C? both choices are reasonable.

Hi @chongkwongyu2

If I were to summarize the passage without checking the options (this way of attacking RC gets better results but takes time to get good at - I’m still working on it ^^) then the following would be the purpose of the passage:

Author talks about a concept known/acknowledged by most however while looking at the evidence he couldn’t back up the concept more or less.

  • To further elaborate this, the author looked at various research data and studies which showed no concrete evidence to the concept. Words from the passage “taken together” a.k.a. summarizes what he construes to be a possible myth rather than fact.

Now looking at the answer choices, I should only be searching for anything related to: Author talks about concept + evidence + his conclusion

A. what explanations? Irrelevant.
B. Sounds good, has summary (conclusion) + Evidence + Hypothesis (Concept).
C. The findings didn’t have inconsistencies in them, they were legit and didn’t have flaws. Trap Answer.
D. The Author did try to give some explanation in the end however was it the primary purpose? Nope.
E. What Origins lol? Irrelevant.

I don’t know what the official answer is but I hope it’s B. Let me know if this helps!

Thanks
Jeet
