Quant question from gre prep club forum - no answer there yet

3,4, a are sides of a triangle. The angle facing the hypotenuse is acute. What is the range of values of a?

Please explain your working too.

think the range of values of a is 1<A<7 but is this question for real i mean hypotenuse only exist in a right angle triangle and the angle facing the hypotonias can’t be acute Just my opinion this question is a bad question just my opinion

you should rephrase the question here to the largest angle in triangle is acute.

you can use cosine rule here,

cos A = (3^2 +4^2 -a^2)/24
cos B = (3^2 + a^2 - 4^2)/6a

For A, and B to be acute, the cosines should be +ve.
i.e. sqrt(7)<=a<=5
