Quant Strategy Help

For the above question what is the strategy that helps to solve it at speed? Is it choosing numbers, easier examples or algebra? Please let me know what your approach would be to solve this in seconds.

I would consider the remainders when we divide each side of the equations by 2.

You can choose numbers for this Question.

Starting with x=1
A) y=5 (odd)
B) y=7 (odd)
C) y=3 (even)
D) y=2.5 (not an integer)
E) y=4 (even)

Now to decide between C and E, we can choose another number
Let’s say x=3
C) y=2 (even)
E) y=0

3 isn’t even - just choosing x = 1 will give you the answer that only E satisfies the chosen number.
