Not much difference in this specific case. The parenthesis becomes important when the number is negative or power to a power

If you mean on this very question, you don’t necessarily need the calculator but you can use it by

  1. Finding √5,
  2. Add it to the memory of the calculator.
  3. Find √5 again
  4. Multiply by the √5 in the memory of the calculator.

Of course, you don’t have to do all this because √5 = 5^{0.5}. So (√5)² = 5m
