Query about Question 7 from "Ancient Chinese Astronomy" [13515]

Isn’t star map same as constellations and they have mentioned in the passage that they created star maps One important contribution of Chinese astronomy was the creation of star maps and calendars
The reason I selected planetary motion is that they have mentioned them measure movement of celestial body, no I know planets are also celestial bodies but for me they it was a 50:50 choice coz both are technically mentioned
Devices such as armillary spheres were used to model the movement of celestial bodies.

If we are using outside knowledge that plants = celestial and constellations = star maps then both answers are not correct.

Hi @user15611, yes, I can see why this felt a bit 50/50 at first.

The reason “constellations” is the intended answer is that the passage directly says Chinese astronomers tracked “planetary motion,” and it also explicitly mentions observations of sunspots and supernovae. It never actually says they recorded constellations.

I think the key distinction is that a star map can contain or represent constellations, but “star maps” and “constellations” aren’t exactly the same thing. So picking constellations would require a little extra inference, whereas the other three are stated more directly in the passage.

That said, I do agree that the question wording could be cleaner. Calling all four choices “celestial events” is a little awkward, especially for constellations and planetary motion. Something like “Chinese astronomical records included all of the following EXCEPT” would probably make the intended distinction clearer. We’ll make that fix, thank you for bringing it to our attention!
