I’m confused about this. It seems simpler than I thought upon hearing the explanation, but I was considering selecting a month, and selecting one of three genres as different events that you need to multiply together. Maybe I just need to review probability more since I usually never get probability questions correct.

You can do that. Only you have to go month by month.

We nust select a month and select the highest selling genre(s).

The probability of selecting January is \frac{1}{6}, and the probability of the highest genre is \frac{1}{3}.

Together, the probability of both events is \frac{1\times1}{6\times3}.

This will be the same for March, July and November.

Bringing the total probabilities from those 4 months to 4\times \frac{1\times1}{3\times6}.

The probability of selecting May is \frac{1}{6}, and probability of selecting highest genres is \frac{2}{3}.

Together, the probability of both both events is
\frac{1\times2}{6\times3}.

This will be the same probability for September.

May and September together becomes 2\times\frac{1\times2}{6\times3}~ways

Adding Probabilities for all 6 months, we get \frac{8}{18}
