I want to get folks’ thoughts on using the Big Book in the week prior to your exam to practice reading comprehension.
Throughout my prep, I have made extensive use of the big book passages to work on reading skills and RC strategies such as VVS, justifying answers, and POE. I believe using this resource like so has really helped me build good skills and strategies.
In the past week, I have switched to using the official GRE guide Verbal book to practice. Besides using it to work with fresh and updated content, I meticulously go through the problems and sets that I have already done to understand why answer choices are right vs wrong.
While the big book was key to building skills, I feel as though the passages significantly differ in length and clarity between the big book and current official materials. So much so that I initially found it harder to extract main ideas from the current materials as compared to the Big Book.
Am I just imagining this difference, or has anyone else experienced it? As such, I wonder if it’s not a good idea to go back to the big book at this point to continue honing strategies/skills.
TL/DR: I am taking the exam in 6 days and have used up most of (not all of) my ETS OG material for RC so I am wondering if going back to the Big Book to work on skills is a good or bad idea, given the differences in passage clarity and length between the two.
