Dear esteemed forumers. I am halfway through the reading strategy but needed more advice. Unlike TC and SE, we know for sure math and pairing are more ubiquitous than the other complementary strategies, but what about for RC kind of questions / comprehension?
For example, if we can identify functions / sifting for the golds among the rocks, do we still need to simplify or rephrase a question? Is there a pecking order to the strategy? eg perhaps approach a passage by looking for the golds first and then attempt the questions. If the question requires revisiting specific sentence, then only we simplify or rephrase it?
Also is there generally a difference in emphasising certain strategy for short or long? Currently, I am just rephrasing for short passage and then for long passage, I will just attempt to identify function / golds.
Rephrasing and Simplifying and Eliminating Answers can take you quite far if you can do them well.
For short, you have the time to do rephrasing/simplifying, for longer passages you might instead have to look for main ideas and then move into detail when answering questions.
You should check out the “Follow the Process” series, you’ll see how all of these strategies that you learn come together when working through a reading passage:
