Rounding Problem

Hi Greg and all members,
Can someone help me with this?

If lets say we find the answer 15.76
And the instruction says either

  1. give the answer to the nearest 0.1
  2. give the answer rounded to the nearest 0.1

So is it correct to write 1) 15.7 and 2) 15.8
Or in both cases it mean we have to round it to 15.8?

Thanks

Considering your question, we take the number 15.71

If the digit we have to round is any of 0,1,2,3,4, we bring it down to 15.7

But if the last digit that we have to round is ending with any of 5,6,7,8,9 then we round it up.

So in the case of 15.76, we have to round the last digit which is 6, so we take it up to 15.8

Remember, " If the last digit is less than 5, then round down. If the last digit is 5 or greater, then round up."

Thank you Jai for the answer. But Iā€™m more confused about the wording 1) to the nearest 0.1 and 2) round to the nearest 0.1, do they both tell me to round the answer OR in case 1) I just have to write the decimal to the tenth digit without round it up/down(which if this is right then I just have to write it as 15.7)

Oh yeah, they mean the same thing. Round to 15.8

Cool thank you Jai!

Both cases means the same thing hence only 15.8 is the correct choice
