SC (Big Book) Test 2 Section 1

I fail to identify that freedom should be seen negatively and that people would want to escape from it. My original thinking was that people are becoming more independent and, since there is no indication of contrast, they would continue to be isolated/independent. In a way, I expected the answer to convey a trend of people drifting apart even more. Could anybody help me understand why answer choice (c) is the correct one?ty

I think its the clue isolated and lonely before freedom that gives blank(i) a -ve connotation . Freedom by itself a good thing but the overall context matter.

And if its a -ve thing than most will try to flee(Blank ii) it .
