Scoring Algorithm - Shorter GRE

I gave my PowerPrep 1 mock today and got a score of 327.

Verbal - 161 (8 incorrect questions)
Quants - 166 (2 incorrect questions)

I am surprised to see my quants score drop down to 166 when I had just lost two points. In the case of the older pattern, losing two points still fetched me a score around 168 or 169. Does this have to do with more weightage per question due to their fewer number?

If this is the case, shouldn’t graduate schools relax their minimum GRE score requirements a tad bit?

Yes.

Not necessarily. Fewer questions also mean fewer questions to get wrong on. Also anecdotally, we seem to see that -2 on the real shorter test seems to map to a 168Q.
