SE Question Math Strategy

“It would’ve been disingenuous of the candidate to appear ___ when her opponent won the election, but she congratulated the victor nonetheless.”

How to do the math strategy in this one? I understand the logic by looking at it but the “but” and the “disingenuous” together are confusing me.

Pairing options:

Ecstatic, euphoric

Crestfallen, disgruntled

Think of it this way

It would have been insincere of the candidate to appear_______ when her opponent won the election, but she congratulated the victor nonetheless.

Math Strategy

Idea 1 = Sentence before the comma.

Idea 2 = She congratulated the victor nonetheless.

The comma separates the ideas.

Disingenuous ( - ) x ( Blank ) = But ( - ) x Congratulated he Victor ( + )

Blank must be positive.

that’s so smart of you
