Hi! Hopefully this makes sense.
We’re used to seeing “GregMat logic” largely as annotations on each question. During normal tests, this is also how I work, by underlining, circling, annotating, etc. in order to make sense of what is going on. Obviously with the GRE being a computer-based test, you can’t do that. What are your strategies to replace this? Do you just write down shorthand notes on your whiteboard or do you just do your best to keep track mentally? I’m mostly struggling with the long passage reading questions and how to stay organized when I have to go back and forth between the passage and my notes. Any tips are appreciated, I just want to see what everyone’s approach is
I would spend a good deal of your beginning prep for RC study doing exactly what GregMat does in his videos writing down notes on your scrap paper. (I wouldn’t mark up the text, e.g., circle words, etc.). Answer some of the questions (untimed) by referencing your notes. Gradually take fewer notes, I stopped simplifying sentences and graduated to just writing down the function of each sentence. And, eventually, do it all in your head. For me, it’s less about the details and more about the “direction” and “function” of each sentences (for a short passage) and the “direction” and “function” of the paragraphs (for a long passage).
It’s definitely a skill you need to sharpen and hone and does not come overnight.
