Can someone please help me figure out how to choose the first blank
The comma(,) after the story signals a support and we have paradigm of the form (+ve), thus the sentence before it should also be (+ve) but we’ve hardly at the starting of the sentence with carries a (-ve) sentiment thus, we need the blank to (-ve) as well to make the overall idea of the sentence(+ve)!

First I make up pairs ! (Only knew 1 pair ), and M= I know the meaning of these words!
Now, I treat SE like TC and come with our own word to fill ! Clue is lead to form new form, signs .Thus, blank is somewhat related to something being on the rise.
The pair which I have doesn’t mean on the rise, neither do controversial or inimical thus ,I choose resurgent and recrudescent by process of elimination
