Suggestions to improve comprehension

The nuance in GRE grammar usage, at least as an Indian English speaker, is something that you are not accustomed to. For example:

The temperature is higher than it would be if summer

Two things can be inferred as implications from above:

  1. It’s not summer currently.
  2. Current: Temperature is high
Summer(Hypothetical): Usually lesser than current temp.

But due to cursory reading or other factors I made an error in (2) where I assumed would be referred to the current. Like would be = as in generally.

My rephrasing: The temperature is higher than usual in summer :mask:

So my Implication of 2 in the haste ended up as:
Current: Usually low
Summer: Higher than usual

Familiarising with various such types of grammar usage that can help me understand the context with ease, especially to increase accuracy and save time.

Two things I would be grateful to have your comments on:

  1. Any articles, newspapers or grammar sessions from GREg that can help me improve my skills, possibly get rid of this bad habit completely.
  2. Any of such similar grammatical issues that hinder the comprehension of passage or questions. Would be helpful to have a list of common errors in comprehension that could have escaped my knowledge.

Any thoughts?

Everyone who is in the field that doesn’t deal with a lot of reading face the same problem.
