The _________ of the royal court afforded authorities sufficient _________ for interference. Isabella, the new queen, _________ and depraved, engendered much instability.
What would be the support/contrast idea for the first and second blank?
What do you think?
I was thinking if “afforded” would be the support idea for first blank and “sufficient” would be the support idea for the second blank. But whenever I try to put those into the blanks, I’m getting “wrong answers” popup. So, I’m a little bit confused.
Which blank do you solve first here?
Third one.
So when the RHS is filled in and we know that “the queen engendered much instability” we can support that idea to fill in B2 right? So maybe the full stop?
After finding the third one, lets take a look at the first sentence -
The part The _________ of the royal court
of the sentence supports the other part in the same sentence with the word afforded
(for the second blank).
Now for the first blank, there is no support/contrast within the first sentence, hence it depends on the second sentence. So the .
which connects the sentence is the support for that blank.
Basically, according to my interpretation, 2nd sentence influences the 1st blank
which in turn supports the 2nd blank
