Systems Of Equations Question from “GRE Quant Foundation Assessment Test (Algebra)” on google forms

Using the system of equations below, calculate the product of x and y.

3x + 4y = -6
-2x + 2y = -10

I am looking for assistance solving this problem using the elimination method. The answer is 6 but I can’t seem to get there.

In the first line, I see that you changed

-2x + 2y = -10 \rightarrow -4x - 4y = 20

= fail
