Select and indicate the best answer from among the following answer choices:
The self-proclaimed claimed to be an expert in many different fields, but in reality, he had only a superficial knowledge of each.
a). novice b). master c). dilettante d). professional
My doubt is ‘but in reality’ is a contrasting phrase, so i was looking for something that contrast superficial knowledge which is the word ‘expert’ in the first idea. so now i was looking for something similar to expert in many fields. the test shows the correct answer is dilettante. can anyone help me as to how can i reach to this answer?
The self-proclaimed ________ claimed to be an expert in many different fields, but in reality, he had only a superficial knowledge of each.
a). novice b). master c). dilettante d). professional
Yeah this is weird and I think perhaps wrong. The person IS a dilettante, but he would never proclaim himself to be a dilettante but rather a master or perhaps a professional.
