T.C question doubt

Select and indicate the best answer from among the following answer choices:
The self-proclaimed claimed to be an expert in many different fields, but in reality, he had only a superficial knowledge of each.
a). novice b). master c). dilettante d). professional

My doubt is ‘but in reality’ is a contrasting phrase, so i was looking for something that contrast superficial knowledge which is the word ‘expert’ in the first idea. so now i was looking for something similar to expert in many fields. the test shows the correct answer is dilettante. can anyone help me as to how can i reach to this answer?

Where is the blank in the sentence? Can you please post a screenshot of the question?

Sorry for my mistake here is the blank.

The self-proclaimed ________ claimed to be an expert in many different fields, but in reality, he had only a superficial knowledge of each.
a). novice b). master c). dilettante d). professional

added the question again

Yeah this is weird and I think perhaps wrong. The person IS a dilettante, but he would never proclaim himself to be a dilettante but rather a master or perhaps a professional.

Where’s the question from though?

I don’t think it should be dilettante either

it is from a ‘yocket’ exercise. i saw someone post on the yocket batch group.

Then I would check there, the answer doesn’t seem right
