TC from Big book Test 8 Section 5

Hey can someone help me figure out the second blank in this question?
The first blank is related to the idea of relating between genetic programming and learning, so it could either support the idea or work against the idea. Now, I couldn’t get much insight into the second blank so I thought of eliminating using the first blank but all options seem the same. Can someone help me figure out the second blank from a strategy perspective?
Thanks

the clue is: “the most instinctive of behavioral responses” which implies that the learning is just as ingrained, automatic, or inherent as these instinctive behaviors.

A) “superseded by…primitive” - Superseded suggests being replaced or set aside, which doesn’t fit because the sentence implies that the learning is ongoing and active, not replaced.

B) “compatible with…transient” - While “compatible with” might initially seem to make sense, suggesting that learning works along with genetic programming, “transient” doesn’t fit because it suggests the learning is temporary, which contrasts with the comparison to instinct, which is enduring.

C) “complementary to… familiar” - “Complementary to” suggests that learning and genetic programming enhance each other, which fits well. However, “familiar” doesn’t necessarily carry the same weight of being ingrained or automatic as instinctual behavior.

D) “derived from…inventive” - “Derived from” would imply that the learning comes directly from genetic programming, which could be a possibility. However, “inventive” suggests creativity and novelty, which doesn’t match the idea of learning being as automatic as instinct.

E) “dictated by…stereotyped” - “Dictated by” suggests that learning is controlled by genetic programming, which fits. “Stereotyped” in behavioral biology often refers to a behavior that is repeated in a uniform way, akin to instincts. (correct answer!)

thanks a lot!
